Leading in Uncertainty

Periods of uncertainty force leaders to make decisions without clear signals or stable conditions. Economic shifts, reorganizations, and workforce change can cloud judgment. This work helps leaders regain clarity, focus on what they can control, and move forward with confidence, informed by real leadership experience.

Daily Leadership

Leadership is shaped less by off-sites or retreats than by the small decisions leaders make each day. Drawing on Daily Leadership: A Field Guide, this work helps leaders turn intention into everyday actions that build trust, reinforce culture, and sustain momentum over time.

From Insight to Action

Idea

Leaders often know what they want to do but struggle to follow through amid competing priorities. This work helps teams move from insight to action by aligning decisions, communication, and accountability, turning intention into consistent execution in daily work.

How Engagements Work

Working together typically begins with a conversation. The goal is to understand your context, the challenges you’re navigating, and what would be most useful right now. Engagements are shaped around real conditions, not pre-set packages, and are designed to be practical, focused, and respectful of leaders’ time.

1. Initial Conversation

We start with a focused discussion to explore what’s happening in your organization and what prompted the outreach. This conversation helps clarify priorities, timing, and the leadership dynamics at play. There is no expectation to move forward. The purpose is alignment and fit.

2. Shaping the Engagement

If it makes sense to continue, we shape an approach that fits your needs. This may involve a single session or a short sequence of work. Together, we clarify format, audience, and scope, keeping the focus on what will be most useful for your leaders at this point in time.

3. Delivery

Engagements may take the form of a keynote, a facilitated leadership session, or an interactive working conversation. Sessions are grounded in real leadership situations and emphasize clarity, shared language, and practical application. Delivery can be virtual or in person, depending on context.

4. What Follows

Some engagements stand alone. Others naturally lead to follow-on conversations or additional sessions as conditions evolve. Any next steps are shaped collaboratively and only pursued if they add value.

A Note on Flexibility

I work with senior leadership teams, mixed leadership groups, and broader management audiences. Engagements can be designed as one-time sessions or as part of a longer leadership development arc. Throughout, the emphasis is on usefulness, relevance, and respect for the realities leaders face.

If you’re considering a conversation, you can expect a thoughtful, low-pressure exchange focused on understanding your needs and whether this work is a good fit. Clarity comes first. Everything else follows from there.

Daily Leadership: A Field Guide

Daily Leadership: A Field Guide is a practical book for leaders who want to lead with clarity and steadiness, especially when conditions are uncertain and the day-to-day feels complex.

Drawing on real leadership experience and behavioral insight, the book offers short reflections, practical tools, and simple “One Thing Today” practices that leaders can apply immediately in their own context.

Whether you lead a team, teach, or guide a community, Daily Leadership is meant to be a companion. It focuses on the everyday moments where leadership actually shows up and where trust, culture, and results take shape over time.

I bring more than 35 years of experience working alongside leaders across academia, nonprofits, government, and large global organizations as they navigate change, uncertainty, and growth. My perspective has been shaped by both senior executive leadership and doctoral training, grounding my work in rigorous thinking and real-world conditions.

Over the course of my career, I’ve held executive roles leading teams of 150+ and overseeing complex portfolios exceeding $100M in revenue, often during periods of disruption, transition, or reinvention. I’ve guided organizations through shifts in technology, evolving workforce expectations, and new operating models, balancing strategic clarity with the human realities leaders face every day.

Those experiences inform my approach today. Whether helping leadership teams regain focus, strengthen trust, or communicate more clearly under pressure, I work from a practical understanding of how decisions, behavior, and culture interact over time.

Much of this thinking is captured in my book, Daily Leadership: A Field Guide, which distills decades of leadership experience into practical insights leaders can apply in the everyday moments that shape results and legacy.

I continue to engage with industry and government communities focused on how institutions adapt in a rapidly changing environment. As a frequent keynote speaker and facilitator, my current work centers on helping leaders move forward with confidence, clarity, and consistency when the path ahead is not fully defined.

Not just in terms of strategy or innovation, but as people. As conditions shift and certainty becomes harder to find, I care deeply about helping leaders grow, adapt, and guide others with clarity and steadiness.

Throughout my career, I’ve led teams through economic change, technological disruption, and evolving expectations about work itself. Those experiences reinforced something I’ve seen repeatedly: leadership rarely hinges on singular, dramatic moments. It takes shape day by day, through how leaders listen, decide, follow through, and show up when the path forward isn’t obvious.

That belief sits at the center of my work on Daily Leadership. I’m passionate about helping leaders build the habits and perspective needed to lead well in ordinary moments, not just during crises or major transitions. Over time, those moments are what shape trust, culture, and performance.

Outside of my work, I find balance in quieter rhythms that reflect the Daily Leadership mindset. Hiking with my dogs in the Georgia wilderness, experimenting in the kitchen, drumming in the basement, or settling into a thoughtful podcast on philosophy or history all give me space to reflect and recharge. I’m deeply curious about how people grow, adapt, and find meaning, whether in the workplace or around the dinner table.

I believe the best leaders stay grounded. That often means stepping away from noise, spending time with family, getting outside, or simply listening closely to what’s happening around you. Those moments fuel my work and reinforce a simple truth: leadership, like life, is shaped through steady choices made over time.
